AgroLegacyTM is a logo and brand designed to promote local agriculture and its related products and industries. It was developed with a grant from USDA and the professional guidance of the Nikki Jones Agency to help our producers, processors, restaurants and markets distinguish their goods as truly local.
AgroLegacyTM is intended for family farms meaning the family or individual farmer is financially responsible and taking the risks. It can also be used by those who create value added products like cheese, honey or maple syrup from local agricultural commodities, as defined by the PA Preferred Program. Farmers Markets where more than half the vendors are AgroLegacy certified can also use the logo. Eventually, farm-to-table restaurants and grocers will be included as well.
You start by filling out the online form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1qbKFFd8XW9Kru6C7bfAF-CXoTxFlE5tcLkX6jPOo3g0/edit or visit the www.AgroLegacy.org to find the link. We will then send someone out to your farm or facility to verify the information and take some photographs. Once you sign the AgroLegacy Master Agreement, you can start applying the AgroLegacyTM Logo to qualifying products.
A: Initially, the Wayne County Commissioners have committed to covering any initial costs associated with the AgroLegacyTM program, including the development of the new consumer-engaging website AgroLegacy.org. There will likely be some costs associated with the program moving forward as we build the brand and begin to implement the brand strategy, also developed by the Nikki Jones Agency.
A: Once you have registered and signed the agreement, the only thing required to participate is to use the logo and brand as spelled out in the Master Agreement. This includes only using the AgroLegacy brand and logo on the products you grow or produce yourself. If you do purchase produce or other items from other local farms, encourage them to register for AgroLegacyTM and those products can be labeled – by them -- as well.
A: The rules for how and when to use the AgroLegacyTM brand and logo are spelled out in the Logo Usage Standards in the Master Agreement, which differ by product. There are specific standards for when meats and nursery plants and trees can be labeled, as well as ones guiding the amount of AgroLegacy certified local products that must go into processed products and freshly prepared foods.
A: For now, the benefits include some branded materials that you can use on your farm, at your farm stand or even on your products. Your farm will also be listed on our pending Consumer Website as well as the participant website, which is already up and running. In the future, AgroLegacy will be the subject of extensive marketing efforts here at home as well as in the major metropolitan markets to the east and south.
AgroLegacyTM makes it easier for consumers, restaurateurs and others in the community to know they are purchasing products of exceptional quality grown or created right here at home. Most people want to support local farms and local farm families and AgroLegacy makes those opportunities clear to them.
