Farmer’s markets continue to be a trusted place for buying fresh and local produce, meats, eggs, dairy, bakery and other delicious foods that we enjoy all year round. Starting now, the Main Street Farmer’s Market welcomes SNAP/EBT customers and has a new program for earning market reward vouchers!
NEAR Cash is a nutrition education and awareness rewards program offered by the Cooperage Project to support our local food system. Similar to other programs in Wayne County, the Lehigh Valley, and Philadelphia areas, vouchers are given to community members to spend at the market each week. There are two ways customers can earn NEAR Cash:
Swipe their SNAP/EBT card and convert their chosen amount of benefits into NEAR Cash to spend with market vendors. SNAP customers earn double vouchers up to $10 each week! Convert $5 in SNAP benefits to NEAR Cash and get $10 in vouchers. Convert $10 in SNAP benefits to NEAR Cash and get $20 in vouchers. Convert any greater amount of SNAP benefits to NEAR Cash and get the dollar-for-dollar conversion, plus $10 extra in NEAR Cash.
Families that attend Romping Radishes on the second Saturday of each month during the market months will earn NEAR Cash! Children will each be rewarded with $5 in NEAR Cash for joining this healthy living class for kids and can shop with local vendors for the fresh produce (or products) they like most, or want to try.
NEAR Cash is redeemable for fruits and vegetables, poultry and eggs, dairy products, baked goods, frozen meals, meats, and nuts and seeds. NEAR Cash can not be converted into cash, and no cash back can be given. Purchases will be rounded to the nearest whole dollar, or customers may be asked to pay the difference. Vendors accept cash, check, credit card, Venmo and/or PayPal. NEAR Cash is only redeemable at the Main Street Farmer’s Market, 1030 Main Street, Honesdale, PA on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm through April, 2022.
The NEAR Cash program was created in partnership with the Wayne County Food Pantry, and funded with support from William E. Chatlos Foundation and generous contributions from community members,
